Το τελευταίο μέχρι στιγμής άλμπουμ των Residents (ουσιαστικά του Homer Flynn – αριστερά) είναι αυτό που κυκλοφόρησε πέρσι με τίτλο Doctor Dark, οριζόμενο από τους ίδιους σαν “modern theater piece / opera” και περιγραφόμενο σαν “Ένα ταξίδι στο βρόμικο κόσμο της ευθανασίας, της κατάχρησης ναρκωτικών και της ανθυγιεινής εμμονής με το heavy metal”. Η υπόθεση δανείζεται στοιχεία από πραγματικά γεγονότα όπως η αυτοκτονία των δυο νεαρών φαν των Judas Priest “επηρεασμένων από κρυφά μηνύματα” τοποθετημένα στη διασκευή των JP στο ‘Better By You, better Than Me’ – η μήνυση εναντίον του γκρουπ κατέπεσε. Η ηχογράφηση του Doctor Dark έγινε με τη συνεπικουρία φοιτητών του San Fransisco Conservatory Of Music σε ενορχηστρώσεις του διευθυντή του, Edwin Outwater και του Eric Drew Feldman. It is characterized by themselves as a “modern theater piece / opera” and described as “A journey into the greasy world of euthanasia, drug abuse, and an unhealthy obsession with heavy metal.” The story draws elements from real events, such as the suicide of two young Judas Priest fans “influenced by hidden messages” placed in the band’s cover of ‘Better By You, Better Than Me’. The lawsuit against the group was dismissed. The recording of Doctor Dark was made with the assistance of students from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, with orchestrations by its director, Edwin Outwater and Eric Drew Feldman.
