JETHRO TULL : SKATING AWAY ON THE THIN ICE OF THE NEW DAY [1974]

Μπαίνουμε επισήμως στον [υποτιθέμενο; θα δείξει] καύσωνα, με “δροσιστικά”, και κάποια “καυτά”, μουσικά posts …ξεκινώντας με ένα all-time classic των Jethro Tull.
‘Scating Away on The Thin Ice Of The New Day’, από το War Child. Μέσα απ’ τις ευφορικά αναζωογονητικές νότες του προβάλλουν μερικοί απ’ τους πιο έξυπνους στίχους που έχει γράψει ο Ian Anderson.

We are officially entering the [supposed? yet to be seen] heatwave, with “refreshing”, and some “hot”, music posts… starting with an all-time classic by
Jethro Tull.
Scating Away on The Thin Ice Of The New Day’, from War Child. Out of the euphorically refreshing notes come some of the most brilliant lyrics Ian Anderson has written.

Meanwhile back in the year one
When you belonged to no one
You didn’t stand a chance, son
If your pants were undone
‘Cause you were bred, for humanity
And sold to society
One day you’ll wake up, in the present day
A million generations removed from expectations
Of being who you really want to be
Skating away, skating away, skating away
On the thin ice of the new day
So as you push off from the shore
Won’t you turn your head once more
And make your peace with everyone
For those who choose to stay
Will live just one more day
To do the things they should’ve done
And as you cross the wilderness
Spinning in your emptiness
If you have to, pray
Looking for a sign, that the universal minds
Has written you into the passion play
Skating away, skating away, skating away
On the thin ice of the new day
And as you cross the circle line
Well, the ice wall creaks behind
You’re a rabbit on the run
And the silver splinters fly
In the corner of your eye
Shining in the setting sun
Well, do you ever get the feeling
That the story’s too damn real
And in the present tense?
Or that everybody’s on the stage
And it seems like you’re the only
Person sitting in the audience?
Skating away, skating away, skating away
On the thin ice of the new day
Skating away, skating away, skating away

This is one of my favorite Jethro Tull songs. It was good to listen to it again.

Yes, I love it. Basically I love everything these guys did in the ’60s and ’70s – and, sporadically, in the decades that followed. Anderson is one of my all-time heroes. I’ll never forget the first time I talked with him on the telephone – first interview, some 30 years ago. We got along so well he prolonged the interview for some 30 minutes!

I’ve been fortunate enough to see them live on the same festival, in the late ’90s.
      Thank you!

That was great to listen to, again. Long time, no hear.
The lyrics are deep, and he sings them well. Thank you!
