MOODY BLUES : THE EYES OF A CHILD [SONGS OF CHILDHOOD NOSTALGIA]

To 1969 οι Moody Blues κυκλοφόρησαν ένα άλμπουμ με τον “μεγαλόσχημα διδακτικό” τίτλο To Our Children’s Children’s Children’.
“Candle Of Life” και “Eyes Of A Child” prts 1, 2

In 1969
Moody Blues released an album with the “pompously didactic” title ‘To Our Children’s Children’s Children’.
It is easy for someone to blame them, or others of their generation, for the crime of self righteousness and generally self indulging.
He would be probably wrong, but that’s another story.
What can be hardly underestimated is their gift and inspiration.
We have two songs from this album,
“Candle Of Life” and “Eyes Of A Child”, prts 1,2

00:00 Candle Of Life
04:15 The Eyes Of A Child – Part One
07:39 The eyes Of A Child – Part Two

Something you can’t hide
Says you’re lonely
Hidden deep inside
Of you only
It’s there for you to see
Take a look and be
Burn slowly, the Candle of Life
Something there outside
Says we’re only
In the hands of time
Falling slowly
It’s there for us to know
With love that we can go
Burn slowly, the Candle of Life
So love everybody and make them your friends
So love everybody and make them your friends
Something you can’t hide
Says you’re lonely
Hidden deep inside
Of you only
It’s there for you to see
Take a look and be
Burn slowly, the Candle of Life
Something there outside
Says we’re only
In the hands of time
Falling slowly
It’s there for us to know
With love that we can go
Burn slowly, the Candle of Life

Listen, hear the sound
The child awakes
Wonder all around
The child awakes
Now in his life, he never must be lost
No thoughts must deceive him
In life he must trust
With the eyes of a child
You must come out and see
That your world’s spinning ’round
And through life you will be
A small part of a hope
Of a love that exists
In the eyes of a child you will see
Earth falls far away
New life awaits
Time it has no day
New life awaits
Here is your dream
And now how does it feel?
No words will go with you
And now what is real?
With the eyes of a child
You must come out and see
That your world’s spinning ’round
And through life you will be
A small part of a hope
Of a love that exists
In the eyes of a child you will see

I’m gonna sit and watch the web that you will build this day
Will it be a thread of love you weave?
It’s yours to show the way
Then everything will be as you will see in the light
With the eyes of the child you must come out and see
That your world’s spinning ’round and through life you will be
A small part of a hope, of the love that exists
In the eyes of the child you will see
With the eyes of the child you must come out and see
That your world’s spinning ’round and through life you will be
A small part of a hope, of the love that exists

Really odd – I didn’t recognize Candle of Life, and then I realized i have all of the MB’s albums from Days of Future Past to Seventh Sojourn except for To Our Children’s Children’s Children. Not sure how I missed that one…

Ah, The Moody Blues are brilliant. They really developed a sound and style of their own. In the myriad of their songs I recall (huge wonders), this is not acutely there. Nonetheless, it is a small wonderful wonder.
    Thank you!

They and Procol Harum are the ones who started the “progressive rock” story.
All of my favorite bands including Genesis] owe a lot to them. I cherish their songs myself and find them totally up-to-date, especially today: maybe all this horrible thing with the shutdowns has a silver lining: people might discover again true music & books & art, which have become rare species for such a long time.

You have hit the nail on the head!!!!
There’s these 2 young rap type guys who are getting millions of hits listening to older rock, and recording their first time hearing it. Here’s Phil Collins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l3-iufiywU

I know the drill. I’ve watched guys like these hearing for the first time stuff like …Jethro Tull or even …Queen. It’s hilarious but educating also.
          Thanks for sharing!
