Το ξεκίνημα γίνεται με την ορχήστρα, στο απόλυτο σκοτάδι. Απότομα, στην κορύφωση ενός κρεσέντου, η μουσική σταματά : ο Μαέστρος, ως διά μαγείας, βρίσκεται στη σκηνή. Λουσμένος σε μυστηριακό φως στέκεται εκεί μαγνητίζοντας το ακροατήριο με το βλέμμα του. Έξαφνα αρχίζει να παίζει σαν δαιμονισμένος, με την ορχήστρα να ακολουθεί.
Αυτή ήταν, grosso modo, η εισαγωγή ενός κονσέρτου του συνθέτη – μάγου του βιολιού, Nicolo Paganini [1782-1840]…προάγγελου των rock shows 150 χρόνια μετά. Αλλά και, πριν απ΄ αυτά, εκείνων του θαυμαστή του, πιανίστα και συνθέτη Franz Liszt [1811-1886], “απόλυτου ροκ σταρ” του 19ου αιώνα.
Ακούμε πρώτα [00:00] την πιανιστική εκδοχή του τελευταίου, της σύνθεσης του Paganini ‘La Campanella’. Σολίστ ο Κουβανός πιανίστας Jorge Bolet. Και στη συνέχεια [05:07] το real thing : τρίτο μέρος, Rondo, από το Κονσέρτο για Βιολί Νο 2 του Paganini σε σι ελάσσονα. Σολίστ ο Salvatore Accardo, την London Philharmonic διευθύνει ο Charles Dutoit.

It all starts with the orchestra in absolute darkness. Out of the blue, at the climax of a crescendo, the music stops : as if by magic, the Maestro is on stage. Bathed in mystical light, he stands there, captivating the audience with his gaze. Suddenly he starts playing like a demon, with the orchestra following.
This was, grosso modo, the beginning of a concert by the composer – violin magician, Nicolo Paganini [1782-1840] …harbinger of rock shows 150 years later. But also, before that, those of his admirer, pianist and composer Franz Liszt [1811-1886], the “ultimate rock star” of the 19th century.
We first hear [00:00] Liszt’s piano version of Paganini’s ‘La Campanella’, performed by the Cuban Jorge Bolet. And then [05:07] the real thing : third part, Rondo, from Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor. Salvatore Accardo is the soloist here, the London Philharmonic is conducted by Charles Dutoit.
