Ο μέγιστος των Φινλανδών συνθετών και ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους του αιώνα, έζησε σε ενδιαφέρουσες μουσικά εποχές, ανάμεσα στον υστερορομαντισμό, τον ιμπρεσιονισμό και τις νεότερες μουσικές τάσεις. Ο Jean Sibelius [1865-1957] υπήρξε πολυγραφότατος μέχρι την ηλικία των middle 60s, οπότε επέλεξε να “σιγήσει”. Αυτό, έχοντας εξασφαλίσει την υστεροφημία με ένα ρωμαλέο corpus, από το εμβληματικό Κονσέρτο για Βιολί [ήταν βιολιστής, αλλά όχι σολίστ, ο ίδιος] μέχρι τα συμφωνικά ποιήματα, τη θεατρική μουσική, τη μουσική δωματίου και τις 7 συμφωνίες του.
Ακούμε το επιβλητικό πρώτο μέρος της Τέταρτης από αυτές : Tempo molto moderato, quasi adagio. Την φιλαρμονική του Βερολίνου διευθύνει ο Herbert Von Karajan.
Και στη συνέχεια δυο μικρής διάρκειας αλλά συναρπαστικές, παιγνιώδεις συνθέσεις για βιολί και ορχήστρα : Two Humoresques, op. 87, No 1 in D minor [00:00] και No.2 in D major [03:30]. Ο Christian Tetzlaff συμπράττει με την Danish National Orchestra, διευθ. Thomas Dausgaard

The greatest of the Finn composers and one of the greatest of the century, lived in musically intriguing times, between late romanticism, impressionism and the newer musical trends. Jean Sibelius [1865-1957] was prolific up to his middle 60s, when he chose to “hush”. This, having secured his legacy with a corpus made by works such as the iconic Violin Concerto [he was a violinist, though not a soloist, himself] the symphonic poems, theatrical music, chamber music and his 7 symphonies.
We hear the imposing first part of the Fourth one : Tempo molto moderato, quasi adagio. The Berlin Philharmonic is directed by Herbert Von Karajan.
And then, two short but exciting, playful compositions for violin and orchestra:
