Always felt close to Rick Wright, Pink Floyd’s keyboard player, and composer of relatively few, but extraordinary pieces. Like this little epic, for example, from Atom Heart Mother.
Would you like to say something before you leave
Perhaps you’d care to state exactly how you feel
We said good-bye before we said hello
I hardly even like you, I shouldn’t care at all
We met just six hours ago
The music was too loud
From your bed I gained a day and lost a bloody year
And I would like to know
How do you feel, how do you feel, ah-ah?
How do you feel, how do you feel, ah-ah?
Not a single word was said, the nights still hid our fears
Occasionally you showed a smile
But what was the need
I felt the cold far too soon, the wind of ’95
My friends are lying in the sun
I wish that I was there
Tomorrow brings another town
And another girl like you
Have you time before you leave to greet another man
Just you let me know
How do you feel, how do you feel, ah-ah?
How do you feel, how do you feel, ah-ah?
Pa, pa-pa, p-pa-pa
P-pa-pa, p-pa-pa, pa-p-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Pap-pa-pa, pa-pa-pa
Goodbye to you
Charlotte Kringles too
I’ve had enough for one day

Thanks! I needed that.
Ahhhh I had forgotten this little gem from an album I don’t play nearly enough. A strange mix of happy optimism with oddly violent and angst-ridden tension. Clever man, was Rick!
Very! and very talented.
Thank you for sharing.
I always loved this song and was surprised to discover that it was one of the least popular PF songs. But then, AHM is my second favorite PF album after Wish You Were Here, so I guess I’m not normal… And I do really like everything that Rick Wright wrote.
Rick Wright has been always my favorite Floyd!
Mine too, but then, I am a keyboard player, so… He was one of the biggest influences when I started to play.
Mine also! Along with Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Tony Banks of course. The last one has been my “ultimate hero” in terms of composing and playing, although not a virtuoso like the other two.
My two big ones were the two Rick W’s – very different, but great in their own way. I have always like Emerson, but not my top favorite. As time goes by the more I appreciate Tony Banks.
