MUSIC AS BACKGROUND [PART 1]

There ain’t no greater deception than the so-called “music for atmosphere” – elevator music and her …sophisticated sister, ambient music: True music has always had an atmosphere – how could it be the other way around? But the atmosphere has its pillar not only in the “sound element”, but also in the notes. The same notes that constitute a strong element of the sound itself. Therefore, the same pianist will bring out different sounds from the same piano, depending on what he plays.
Music written in order to create “atmosphere” is usually pseudo-music. Its origins lay on the pseudo-classical music written for the silver screen.
The idea of background music entering people’s daily routine, meaning that all activities, “always and everywhere” must be accompanied by music, apart from speaking volumes about the artistry of the “product”, is highly effective as a means of massive scale manipulation, worldwide.
