Αριστούργημα! 🟡 🟡 A delightfully welcome suggestion from stcigar is this five-voice madrigal from the 17th century – a hymn to tobacco by the Elizabethan composer Michael East. I can imagine Monty Python discovering it, and a renaissance TV AD resulting automatically, with this as the jingle. A masterpiece!

Musically I find it very enjoyable! Renaissance and baroque music are my top choices when it comes to the desert island question!
That type of music does hold a certain appeal, particularly the harpsichord.
Oh, it does relate to particular sounds. But first and foremost, it’s a question of how one approaches the creative process. To put it in as few words as possible: Baroque music is “more bout form, less about drama”. And it is precisely this “dramatic” element — which music increasingly came to serve from a certain era onward — that marks the road to decadence.
