Παρά τις αρνητικές κριτικές που είχε δεχτεί στην εποχή του (και σήμερα άλλωστε ακούγεται ελάχιστα σε σύγκριση με το πρώτο) το δεύτερο κονσέρτο για πιάνο και ορχήστρα του Felix Mendelssohn μου είναι ιδιαίτερα αγαπητό. Γράφτηκε από το συνθέτη στα 28, σε μια ευτυχισμένη στιγμή της ζωής του : στο μήνα του μέλιτος μετά το γάμο με τη Cecile Jeanrenaud και αυτό, με κάποιο τρόπο …ακούγεται. Ακούμε τα δυο πρώτα μέρη, γραμμένα σαν ενιαίο σύνολο, από το θρυλικό Rudolf Serkin και την Philadelphia Orchestra – διευθύνει ο Eugene Ormandy. 🟡 🟡 Despite the negative criticism it received in its time — and the fact that it is still performed far less frequently today compared to the First — Felix Mendelssohn’s Second Piano Concerto is particularly dear to me. It was written by the composer at the age of 28, during one of the happiest periods of his life — right after his marriage to Cécile Jeanrenaud, during their honeymoon, and this is somehow …heard. We listen to the first two movements, composed as a single continuous whole, performed by the legendary Rudolf Serkin with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy.
