LEE HAZLEWOOD / MADRUGADA & THE WEBB BROTHERS (2002)

Από το tribute album με το οποίο η εναλλακτική σκηνή των early ’00s τίμησε τον Lee Hazlewood (Total Lee! – The Songs Of Lee Hazlewood, 2002) διαλέγουμε τις διασκευές των Madrugada στο ‘Come On Home To Me’ και των Webb Brothers στο ‘Some Velvet Morning’…
Ο LH είναι από τους αγαπημένους μου μουσικούς αυτού του μήνα.

From the tribute album with which the early ‘00s alternative scene honored Lee Hazlewood (Total Lee! – The Songs Of Lee Hazlewood, 2002) we pick the covers of ‘Come On Home To Me’ by Madrugada and ‘Some Velvet Morning’ by The Webb Brothers …
LH is among my favorite musicians of this month.

00:00 COME ON HOME TO ME
A bird can fly
On just one wing
But then why should he?
Oh where there’s sky there must be rain
And where there’s you, there’s me
So do it all
Get it done
Be all there is to be
And wrap yourself in something warm
And come on, come on
Come on home to me
Love can die and we’ll never know
What it might have been
And then you and I will never know
Until we try again
So see it all
Get it done
See all there is to see
And wrap yourself in something warm
And come on, come on
Come on home to me

05:23 SOME VELVET MORNING
Male:
Some velvet morning when I’m straight.
I’m gonna open up your gate.
And maybe tell you ’bout Phaedra
and how she gave me life
and how she made it in.
Some velvet morning when I’m straight.
Female:
Flowers growing on the hill.
Dragonflies and daffodils.
Learn from us very much.
Look at us but do not touch.
Phaedra is my name.
Male:
Some velvet morning when I’m straight.
I’m gonna open up your gate.
And maybe tell you ’bout Phaedra
and how she gave me life
and how she made it in.
Some velvet morning when I’m straight.
Female:
Flowers are the things we knew.
Secrets are the things we grew.
Learn from us very much.
Look at us but do not touch.
Phaedra is my name.
Male:
Some velvet morning when I’m straight.
Female:
Flowers growing on the hill.
Male:
I’m gonna open up your gate.
Female:
Dragonflies and daffodils.
Male:
And maybe tell you ’bout Phaedra
Female:
Learn from us very much.
Male:
And how she gave me life.
Female:
Look at us but do not touch.
Male:
and how she made it in.

Did you feature a duet with Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra previously? I immediately recognized his name and the title of” Some Velvet Morning”? It’s a great song.

Lee Hazlewood is such an interesting character. These are great interpretations of his songs.

I agree! I was lucky enough to come across this guy’s work at a very young age, I just love his simplicity and earthy feeling!
