IGGY POP : THE ENDLESS SEA [NEW VALUES, 1978]

Όχι από τα πιο γνωστά τραγούδια του, αλλά από τα καλύτερα της περιόδου… Το New Values ήταν το πρώτο σόλο άλμπουμ του Iggy χωρίς βοήθεια απ’ τον Bowie.
Not one of his best-known songs, but one of the best from this era…
New Values is Iggy’s first solo album without Bowie on his side.

Oh baby, what a place to be
In the service of the bourgeoisie
Where can my believers be
I want to jump into the endless sea
Oh, oh the endless sea
Oh, oh the endless sea
I want to jump into the endless sea
Let it wash all over me
Above us is a dirty sky
Full of youths and liquors
A little girl, a little guy
This air can’t get much thicker
Oh, oh the endless sea
Oh, oh the endless sea
Oh, oh the endless sea
Let it wash all over me
And when you’re tight for the rent
You think you’re gonna break
But you know it’s no damn good
Just one more phony on the take
You better go home, buddy
I really think,
You better go home, buddy
You better go home, buddy
The endless sea

Thank you! I suspect the title and the lyrics are symbolic and the song is referring to stage diving, but, who cares…

Speaking of stage diving, our daughter won tickets to a concert when she was 14, so I took her to the show. The warm-up band was pitiful. I never figured it out if it was part of the act, or because they were so down and out poor, but most of their instruments were broken in one way or another, the bass had 2 strings, the guitars only 3 or 4 strings, and the drums had broken heads and cracked and broken cymbals. They were truly grunge, strash punk.

The main group was much better. All their instruments were in order and they were tight, with a good grunge sound. People were getting up on the stage and diving into the crowd, getting hand walked across the floor. A nerdy guy got up on the stage, took a dive and the crowd parted like the Red Sea. He would have crashed hard onto the concrete floor, and he probably would have seriously hurt himself, but I reached out and grabble the guy. We both went down, my glasses were crushed, but neither of us was injured.

One problem with crushed glasses was all the young women pulling their shirts up and showing their boobs to the band were blurry.

No. Not that I saw. They might have gotten some boos, however.

You’re right, I don’t recall this song at all. David’s influence remains.

So I woke up in the middle of the night, my head was fuzzy and the tv was still on. I thought I heard that Iggy Pop had died. Woke Norm up. A fuffle ensued. Norm looked it up. Turned out it was Dusty Hill from ZZ Top.
In my groggy mind, ZZ Top sounded like Iggy Pop.

If I posted another partial comment, I apologize. I clicked something and the page went away. lol

Well, the names sound alike – same vowels! Thank God it was not Iggy, though.
