GIORGIO MORODER : MIDNIGHT EXPRESS O.S.T. (1978)

Chase, Love’s Theme, Istanbul Blues: Αποσπάσματα από το all-time classic soundtrack του Moroder για την ταινία του Alan Parker σε σενάριο Oliver Stone.

Chase, Love’s Theme, Istanbul Blues: Excerpts from
Moroder’s all-time classic soundtrack for Alan Parker’s film, screenplay by Oliver Stone. Based on a true story, it provided a vivid, appropriately grim depiction of “friend and neighbor”’s judicial / prisons system.
The film provoked furious reactions from the
Turks for its …stereotypical and defamatory portrayal of their “culture.”

I got the blues, babe
Got those old Istanbul blues
Said yeah, I got the blues, babe
Got those old Istanbul blues
Thirty years in Turkey, babe
Ain’t got nothing left to lose
Well, I was busted at the bottom
With two keys in my shoes, yeah
Said I was busted at the bottom, babe
With two keys in my shoes, yeah
And they gave me thirty years, babe
To learn the Istanbul blues
I said, Lord, now save me
Please, save me from this pain
I said, Lord, now save me
Come and save me from this pain, yeah
Well, come set me free, sweet Jesus
Come on, save me from this pain, ooh-yeah
I got the blues
Got those old Istanbul blues, yeah
I said yeah, I got the blues
Got those old Istanbul blues
They gave me thirty years in Turkey, babe
Ain’t got nothing left to lose

“Midnight Express” was a tough movie to watch.

Well, Turkey was (and is) a tough place to live for liberals. Not to mention organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood, to which Mr. Erdoğan belongs, or, above all, the recorded history of rivals between my country and Turkey. I am not your average ‘patriot’, but I ‘ve come to despise the Turkish political status quo decades ago, for good reasons.
