One of the most fascinating geniuses in the history of music is that of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, iconic composer of the early romantic period. In the short time of his life [38 years] he managed to achieve greatness like few others did, starting at an impressively young age : creative maturity came to FM earlier than any other composer, Wolfgang Amadeus included.
An good example of this is the first work he ever published at the age of 13 : Piano Quartet No. 1 in C Minor, which is worth listening in its entirety.

This is brilliant! Do we have such young composers today?
Certainly we have, in terms of …DNA anyway. But most of them won’t even discover their full potential themselves, because of lack of interest in “today’s society”.
Germany [which was then divided in autonomous states] didn’t have so many brilliant composers in this particular period by accident. Much work had been done by the states, in terms of education, to achieve such level.
