BRYAN FERRY : SEPTEMBER SONG [1999]

Bryan Ferry, As Time Goes By του 1999.

From the many and various interpretations of
Kurt Weill’s classic song [lyrics by Maxwell Anderson] we pick this one, to welcome Autumn that ‘s just begun.
From
Bryan Ferry’s 1999 album As Time Goes By.

But it’s a long, long while from May to December
And the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
And I haven’t got time for the waiting game
For the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I’d spend with you
These golden days I’d spend with you
When you meet with the young men early in spring
They court you in song and rhyme
They woo you with words and a clover ring
But if you examine the goods they bring
They have little to offer but the songs they sing
And a plentiful waste of time of day, a plentiful waste of time
But it’s a long, long while from May to December
And the days grow short when you reach September
And the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
And I haven’t got time for the waiting game
For the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I’d spend with you
These golden days I’d spend with you

Βάλε αν μπορείς κι από μένα ένα φθινοπωρινό κομματάκι που κατά τη γνώμη μου ταιριάζει απόλυτα με το κλίμα της εποχής. Αν εξαιρέσουμε το στίχο “a cold December” του original που εδώ έγινε “that cold September”, η εκτέλεση του Cave δε διαφέρει και πολύ από τη σχετική εκδοχή του Tom Jones που είχαμε παίξει παλιότερα.

I LOVE Ferry’s rendition of the song. His vibrato is perfect for it. Now, I’m sad and wistful and nostalgic all rolled into one weepy little ball.
