ALICE COOPER : DESPERADO / ELECTED

– kudos to Bob Ezrin].
Ο Alice είναι ξεχωριστό μέλος του February club.

Johnny-Rotten-Lydon [not making the February club for one day] has referred to Killer [1971] as “the best rock’n’roll album ever made”. In my opinion, the degree of Alice Cooper’s influence on Pistols is more clearly heard on Billion Dollar Babies [1973] : ‘Elected’, the second track we hear, could have emerged from Never Mind The Bollocks, 4 years later [minus the horns and the “Ministry” samples! – kudos to Bob Ezrin].
Alice is a special member of the February club.

00:00 Desperado 04:06 Elected

I’m a gambler
And I’m a runner
But you knew that
When you lay down
I’m a picture
Of ugly stories
I’m a killer
And I’m a clown
Step into the street by sundown
Step into your last goodbye
You’re a target just by living
Twenty dollars will make you die
I wear lace
And I wear black leather
My hands are lightning upon my gun
My shots are clean
And my, my shots are final
My shots are deadly
And when it’s done
You’re as stiff as my smoking barrel
You’re as dead as a desert night
You’re a notch
And I’m a legend
You’re at peace
And I must hide
Tell me where the hell I’m going
‘Let my bones fall in the dust
Can’t you hear that ghost that’s calling
As my Colt begins to rust
In the dust
I’m a killer
I’m a clown
I’m a priest
That’s gone to town

I’m your top prime cut of meat, I’m your choice
I wanna be elected
I’m your Yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce
I wanna be elected
Kids want a savior, don’t need a fake
I wanna be elected
We’re all gonna rock to the rules that I make
I wanna be elected, elected, elected
Good evening mr & mrs america and all ships at sea
The candidate is taking the country by storm
I never lied to you, I’ve always been cool
I wanna be elected
I gotta get the vote, and I told you ’bout school
I wanna be elected, elected, elected
Hallelujah, I wanna be selected
Everyone in the United States of America
We’re gonna win this one, take the country by storm
We’re gonna be elected
You and me together, young and strong
We’re gonna be elected, elected, elected
Respected, selected, call collected
I wanna be elected, elected
“And if I am elected
I promise the formation of a new party
A third party, the wild party!
I know we have problems
We got problems right here in central city
We have problems on the north, south, east and west
New York City, Saint Louis, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago
Everybody has problems
And personally, I don’t care”

Two great Alice Cooper songs. I bought Cooper’s albums as soon as they were available. Always loved Alice and I still do. Killer and Billion Dollar Babies are killer albums. Welcome to My Nightmare is genius.

Same here exactly about Alice! Billion Dollar Babies is the first rock album I ever heard [along with Purple’s Machine Head]. He ‘s one of the very few guys from this era I never lost touch with.

I have kept up with Alice over the years, also. His Solid Rock Teen Centers are so cool. I really like Cooper’s philosophy behind the centers. They are Christain based, but they don’t try to force Chritianity of the kids. He’s providing a safe haven where the kids can go to have fun, learn if they choose, and best off all, stay out of trouble. He still puts on a great show.

I’m sure of that! Only saw him live once in 1990, “Trash” era.

Still a fan, myself! Great songs, yet not his hits. Interesting how the hits can obscure the other, possibly better, songs. Norm and the guys like to crank out an Alice song every now and then, and it always gets me moving. Thank you for this!
