We hear the second part, Andante, from Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 3. Its material derives from his opera, ‘Fiery Angel’, which was not to be performed on stage during his lifetime. The symphony is dedicated to fellow student and remarkable composer Nikolai Myaskovski, one of the few friends of Sergei Sergeievitch, not a particularly sociable person.
