BERNARD HERRMANN : FAHRENHEIT 451 [1966]

Bernard Herrmann is the most talented composer ever to work for cinema, and one of the truly important of the 20th century – also, needless to say, one of the prominent composers of the June born club.
His music for
François Truffaut’s film Fahrenheit 451 based on Ray Bradbury’s novel, is yet another masterpiece. Since the recording of the soundtrack lasts only 16 minutes, it didn’t make sense to leave something out.

I could swear I’ve heard the beginning of this used in other movie scores.

      That’s a remark I’d call remarkable!
What we have here is an original idea and …a cliche in the making. Being hugely imitated is one of the things that make BH so great – not only in the sci fi field : apart from countless others, he’s written some 10 scores for Hitchcock [‘Psycho’ among them]. The other thing that makes him great is the classical [not pseudo-classical] quality of the music.
      Thank you!
