MUDDY WATERS & JUNIOR WELLS & BUDDY GUY : ROLLIN’ AND TUMBLIN’

Δύο από τις άπειρες βερσιόν του all-time blues classic. Έχει ενδιαφέρον το κοντράστ ανάμεσα στην έκρυθμη κατάσταση της πρώτης ηχογράφησης, με τις κραυγές που βγαίνουν νομίζεις απ’ τα έγκατα της γης (Muddy Waters – Rollin And Tumblin Part 2, 1950) και το air of confidence που αποπνέει η δεύτερη (Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, 1991) προϊόν μιας εποχής όπου ο blues man απολαμβάνει πλέον το status του αξιοσέβαστου καλλιτέχνη. 🟡 🟡 Two of the numerous versions of the all-time blues classic. There is an interesting contrast between the deranged state of the first recording, with hollers coming out of the bowels of the earth (Muddy Waters – Rollin And Tumblin Part 2, 1950) and the air of confidence exuded by the second one (Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, 1991) a product of an era in which the blues man enjoys at last the status of a respectable artist.

Well, I rolled and I tumbled
Cried the whole night long
Well, I rolled and I tumbled
Cried the whole night long
When I woke up this morning
Didn’t know right or wrong
Well, if the river was a whiskey
And I was a diving duck
If the river was a whiskey
And I was a diving duck
Well, I would dive to the bottom
I’d swear, I’d never come up
Well, I coulda had religion
In this bad old Sunday
I coulda had religion
In this bad old Sunday
But whiskey and bad love
Wouldn’t let me have my way
I rolled and I tumbled
And I rolled and I tumbled
I rolled and I tumbled

I agree. But as far as I’m concerned, and despite my love for the …Original Blues Brothers, I’m with Muddy Waters here hands down!
