Το άλμπουμ – ντεμπούτο των γκαραζοψυχεδελικών από το Texas, ηχογραφημένο το 1967 και κυκλοφορημένο ένα χρόνο αργότερα, έμελλε να είναι και το τελευταίο τους, για το προηγούμενο millennium τουλάχιστον : το σχήμα διαλύθηκε σύντομα μετά την κυκλοφορία του, κυρίως λόγω οικονομικής δυσπραγίας των μελών. Η άποψη των “κριτικών” της εποχής γι’ αυτούς – άστοχη ως συνήθως – μιλούσε για β’ διαλογής κόπια των συμπατριωτών και φίλων τους 13th Floor Elevators και δε βοήθησε στη μακροημέρευση τους. Η έκρηξη των επανεκδόσεων στα ‘90s συνοδευόμενη από την ανακάλυψη άγνωστων διαμαντιών των ‘60s-70s θα έφερνε το Power Plant ξανά στην επιφάνεια ως χαμένο item, οδηγώντας τελικά το singer-songwriter George Kinney στη συναυλιακή και στουντική αναβίωση του concept. Ακούμε τρία τραγούδια από το original cult classic των Golden Dawn (This Way Please, Seeing Is Believing, Tell My Why), γοητευτικότατα στον “ερασιτεχνισμό” τους. Το όνομα του γκρουπ αναφέρεται στο Ερμητικό Τάγμα της Χρυσής Αυγής – τέλη 19ου αιώνα. Δεν επρόκειτο για το “τάγμα του Aleister Crawley”, όπως πιστεύεται : ούτε το ίδρυσε ο εν λόγω, ούτε ηγήθηκε αυτού, ούτε και συμμετείχε για περισσότερο από 2 χρόνια. 📀 📀 📀 The debut album by the garage-psychedelic band from Texas. recorded in 1967 and released a year later, was destined to also be their last — at least for the previous millennium: the group broke up soon after its release, mainly due to the members’ financial hardship. The opinion of the “critics” of the time about them — misguided as usual — spoke of a second-rate copy of friends and fellow Texans 13th Floor Elevators, and did not help the band’s longevity. The reissue boom of the ’90s, accompanied by the discovery of unknown gems from the ’60s–’70s, would bring Power Plant back to the surface as a lost item, ultimately leading singer-songwriter George Kinney to a concert and studio revival of the concept. We hear three songs from the original cult classic by Golden Dawn (This Way Please, Seeing Is Believing, Tell My Why),“amateurish” in a very charming way. The band’s name refers to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn — late 19th century. It was not “Aleister Crowley’s order”, as is commonly believed: he neither founded it, nor led it, nor participated for more than about two years.
