THE BEATLES / BRAD MEHLDAU : MARTHA MY DEAR [SONGS ABOUT DOGS]

Beatles και “Martha My Dear” από το White Album [1968], μαζί με φοβερή version για πιάνο από τον Brad Mehldau [Live In Marciac, 2011]

If “institutions” like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day [the whole range of external “celebratory” interventions in personal relationships] seem ridiculous to me, I should consider …International Dog Day ridiculous as well…. For some reason which I don’t quite understand, it seems to me… a little less ridiculous. Maybe the reason is that dogs, apart from everything else they are, are themselves … comedians in absentia.
In any case, the anniversary will give us cause to remember some songs written for dogs.
Starting with The
Beatles classic “Martha My Dear” from the White Album [1968]. Along with Brad Mehldau‘s awesome version, from 2011’s Live In Marciac.

00:00 Martha My Dear [Beatles] 2:21 Martha My Dear [Brad Mehldau]

Martha, my dear
Though I spend my days in conversation
Please, remember me
Martha, my love
Don’t forget me
Martha, my dearHold your head up, you silly girl
Look what you’ve done
When you find yourself in the thick of it
Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you
Silly girlTake a good look around you
Take a good look you’re bound to see
That you and me were meant to be
With each other
Silly girlHold your hand out, you silly girl
See what you’ve done
When you find yourself in the thick of it
Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you
Silly girlMartha, my dear
You have always been my inspiration
Please, be good to me
Martha, my love
Don’t forget me
Martha, my dear
