Weirdly, I absolutely love this. Many people struggle with this kind of minimalism (my good lady for one!) but I find it incredibly relaxing. I’ve not seen Riley before (though I studied his In C at university) and he looks exactly how I expected him to look!
Seen/hearing Koyaanisqatsi at a very young age was a mind blowing experience which immediately got me into minimal music. I was already “experimenting” with minimal forms myself since my early teens – a naive slogan I coined back then was “repetition leads to ecstasy“.
I think Riley, like Adams, is an outstanding composer inside and outside the “minimal” idiom.
