PAUL WELLER : IN THE CAR [2015]

Continuing our car-related songs tribute we hear a blues oriented anthem by the mighty
Paul Weller. It’s on his relatively recent album, Saturns Pattern.

In the car
In the car
Have I taken it too far
All shook up
Nowhere to go
Just me and my baby
All alone
I could spend my summer nights
Riding ’round the M25
In the car I live my life
Front or the back seat
I don’t mind
In the car
In the car
Many miles, still so far
Ride the highways
Peace on my mind
‘Round the countries
Side by side
I’m self contained
And the music’s loud
No one can get in
And I don’t wanna get out
Now I spend my summer’s wise
Riding ’round the M25
In the car I live and die
Front ot the back seat
I don’t mind
I’m gonna send a pic sometime
Just to show you what it’s like
In the car I live my life
Don’t wanna talk
Just wanna drive

Interesting piece of music. The juxtaposition of the piano is a bit jolting. Almost like another song is playing over the guitar. Slightly off topic, but still on the topic of cars, do you remember Bloodrock’s D.O.A.? I was in 8th grade when that song came out. We had a lazy shop teacher who showed the class drivers education movies with gruesome accidents on Fridays. Mind you it would be another 2 years before we could start driving. The first time I heard D.O.A. was after watching one of those gruesome movies. The imagery in the song with the eerie organ and sirens was so vivid and disturbing after seeing the DE movie that it totally freaked me out. Listening to D.O.A. now. It’s still an eerie song.
