A songwriter, masterful blues and rock guitarist, a distinguished sideman alongside figures like Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and Johnny Winter—many of whose albums he also produced—as well as albums by Joe Louis Walker, Martin Barre (!), and others. We hear him with his band in a highly uplifting performance of the classic ’70s Christmas song ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’. A track by the British glam rockers Slade.

Only just catching up with some of your Christmas posts – all of which have been wonderful as they are every year. I didn’t know there were ANY covers of Slade songs – I kind of wonder why bother? They were such a unique sound. This was great though. I’ll just comment on the fact that lyrics online to this song often miss the most marvellous pun on the word you’ve spelt as ‘slayed’. It is, more logically, about being ‘sleighed’ in the context but either leads to the real joke, which is the band name itself. I love hearing this song simply for the little joke within it – an easter egg (as it were) before such things existed in common parlance!
I also liked Slade. I think they weren’t as overrated by the fans as they were underrated by the “critics”.
And I like their Christmas song very much. Among other things, its refrain starts in a similar way with the one of Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’ some 5-6 years later. Thank you Ken!
