Τα κομμάτια που διαλέγουμε από το Bags’ Groove προέρχονται από δυο ηχογραφήσεις : Στο πρώτο, σύνθεση του George Gershwin ακούμε τους : Sonny Rollins — τενόρο σαξόφωνο, Horace Silver – piano, Percy Heath – bass, Kenny Clarke – drums, Στο δεύτερο, ομώνυμο του άλμπουμ, σύνθεση : Milt Jackson, ακούμε τους Thelonious Monk – πιάνο, Milt Jackson – vibes , Percy Heath – μπάσο, Kenny Clarke – ντραμς. Το track είχε αποκοπεί από το session που θα γεννούσε το μεταγενέστερο άλμπουμ Miles Davis And The Modern Jazz Giants (βρισκόμαστε σε μια εποχή όπου χαρακτηρισμοί τύπου “giants” δεν αποτελούσαν απλώς διαφημιστικές επινοήσεις). Η απουσία συνοδείας του Monk από το σόλο του Miles στο ‘Bags’ Groove’ οφείλεται σε απαίτηση του ίδιου του leader – το γεγονός είχε οδηγήσει στη θρυλική αντιπαράθεση των δυο ανδρών μέσα στο στούντιο. 🔴 🔴 The tracks we’ve selected from Bags’ Groove come from two recording sessions. On the first one, written by George Gershwin, we hear: Sonny Rollins – tenor saxophone, Horace Silver – piano, Percy Heath – bass, Kenny Clarke – drums. On the second, the title track of the album, written by Milt Jackson, we hear: Thelonious Monk – piano, Milt Jackson – vibes, Percy Heath – bass, Kenny Clarke – drums. This track was cut from the session that would later produce the album Miles Davis And The Modern Jazz Giants (we’re in an era when labels like “giants” were not just marketing inventions). The absence of Monk’ s accompaniment during Miles’ solo on ‘Bags’ Groove’ was due to a request by the leader himself – a demand that led to the legendary confrontation between the two men in the studio.
