Μετά την ακρόαση ενός έργου της Mel (Melanie) Bonis σε ιδιωτικό κύκλο, ο Camille Saint-Saëns είχε αναφωνήσει : “Δε φαντάστηκα ποτέ ότι μια γυναίκα θα μπορούσε να γράψει τέτοια μουσική”. Η φράση, πέρα απ’ τις προκαταλήψεις της εποχής, “λέει κάτι” για το επίπεδο της Γαλλίδας συνθέτιδας. Η ζωή της θα μπορούσε να γίνει ένα βιβλίο συναρπαστικό όσο η μουσική της : Συμφοιτήτρια του Debussy και του Gabriel Pierné στο Ωδείο του Παρισιού, με καθηγητή τον César Franck, θαυμαστή όπως και άλλοι του ταλέντου της, θα εξαναγκαζόταν απ’ τους γονείς της να εγκαταλείψει τις σπουδές, διαλύοντας το δεσμό με το συμφοιτητή της Amédée Landély Hettich. Θα την πάντρευαν με έναν εύπορο, πολύ μεγαλύτερο της σε ηλικία (και …άμουσο) άνδρα. Αυτή η θυσία της τέχνης στο βωμό της εύτακτης οικογενειακής ζωής, δε θα μπορούσε να κρατήσει πολύ για μια γυναίκα όπως η Melanie. Μοιραία, κάποια στιγμή επανασυνδέθηκε με το νεανικό της έρωτα, δημιουργώντας “παράνομη” σχέση μαζί του, επιστρέφοντας στη σύνθεση και παραμένοντας δημιουργική μέχρι το τέλος της ζωής της Ακούμε τρία δείγματα του ακριβού της ταλέντου. 🟡 🟡 After listening to a work by Mel (Melanie) Bonis in a private circle, Camille Saint-Saëns exclaimed: “I never imagined that a woman could write such music.” This phrase, beyond the prejudices of the era, “says something” about the level of the French composer. Her life could become a fascinating book, just like her music: A classmate of Debussy and Gabriel Pierné at the Paris Conservatoire, with César Franck, as her teacher — an admirer, like others, of her talent — she would be forced by her parents to abandon her studies, ending her relationship with her fellow student Amédée Landély Hettich. She would be married off to a wealthy man much older than her (and …unmusical). This sacrifice of art at the altar of orderly family life could not last long for a woman like Melanie. Inevitably, at some point she reconnected with her youthful love, forming a “forbidden” relationship with him, returning to composition and remaining creative until the end of her life. We listen to three tokens of her precious talent.
