MAX BRUCH (1838-1929) : VIOLIN CONCERTO No 1

Another case of classic “one hit winder” is the one of German composer – violinist
Max Bruch, one of the last consistent exponents of the romantic spirit, even in an era when trends were moving away from that.
Few of his more than
200 works, operas, choral music, concertos, music for solo instruments, chamber music… are performed today, with most prominently, of course, his famous Violin Concerto No. 1. We hear it from Sarah Chang – the Dresden Philharmonic is conducted by Kurt Masur.

“Scottish Fantasy” is the other piece of his that I hear classical music radio stations play as often as the “Violin Concerto.”

    Wow, fantastic!
Hard to believe “one hit wonder”. I never thought of Classical music as having “hits”.
    Interesting.

I actually use the term as a joke. But then, on second thought, it certainly can be used literally. 😜
