On this, their first ever collaboration, American singer Kurt Elling and Panamanian piano player Danilo Perez, two mostly interesting musicians of the jazz scene, are based on pre-existing material : compositions by Wayne Shorter, Django Bates, Vince Mendoza, Jaco Pastorius [like the two we have here] with original lyrics by the singer.

Well, well! That was amazingly different. I thought of everyone from Frank Sinatra (at the very very beginning) to Bobby McFerrin, to Andy Williams, to a Broadway musical. In the end I hear music that is very unique.
These are definitely some of his basic influences. But he is cool in his own special way. And Danilo Perez is a superb piano player. I’ve seen him live with the Wayne Shorter group : mind – boggling experience.
How wonderful! So happy I went to many concerts and live music events. It seems a bit in the past now, for awhile.
