KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI [1933-2020] : A POLISH REQUIEM – CHACONNE

Ένα “διαφορετικό” απ’ τα άλλα Requiem, είναι αυτό του κορυφαίου Krzysztof Penderecki – R.I.P..

A “different” Requiem, is this one by the leading Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki – R.I.P.. It follows the standard of Catholic Liturgy, but its parts are dedicated to historical moments and figures of the composer’s homeland. We hear Chaconne, performed by the National Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Antoni Wit. The part is dedicated to the memory of Pope John Paul II.

I wrote this on Marina’s repost but will add here too –

I didn’t know he was still alive! Then I didn’t know he died last month! I loved Penderecki’s music ever since I was mesmerised by Threnos while at university. A brilliant, brilliant man ❤

I didn’t know he died last month either! I just found out yesterday.
One of the countless things I’m grateful to Frank Zappa is that he “introduced” me to his music [I first read about him in one of FZ’s interviews].
      Thank you for this.

Interesting! I grew up Catholic, and hated Liturgy. Now… it’s a new day. This was quite entrancing.

I quite understand what you say. Never been a religious guy myself since 12 years old but …sacred music of the great masters is a totally different story!
