KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND : QUEEN OF CLUBS [1974]

Παραμένοντας για λίγο σε ντίσκο-βασιλικό κλίμα, ακούμε ένα τραγούδι των “πρωτοπόρων” KC & The Sunshine Band από το δισκογραφικό ντεμπούτο τους, Do It Good του 1974. Το άλμπουμ, όχι ακριβώς επιτυχία στον καιρό του, θα επανεδιδόταν 4 χρονια αργότερα με διαφορετικό εξώφυλλο και τίτλο Queen Of Clubs.

Remaining in disco-royal mood for a while, we hear a song by the “pioneers” KC &The Sunshine Band, from their debut album, Do It Good of 1974. The album, not exactly a hit in his day, would be re-released 4 years later, with different cover and a different title : Queen Of Clubs.

In every night club across the nation
She’s the life of the party, she’s a real sensation
She’s got style, y’all, she’s got class
She can groove it slow or move it fast
In the early evenin’ through the midnight hour
She keeps swingin’, she’s got super power
She’s the queen of clubs (woo)
She’s the queen of clubs (whoa)
If you throw a party and she ain’t there, well, well, well, well
People let me tell you that your party’s nowhere
From city to city and coast to coast
She’s more than hip now, she’s the most
Up in the mountains, out on the plains
Down in the valleys, they echo her name
She’s the queen of clubs (woo)
She’s the queen of clubs (whoa)
Here she comes
Fine lady
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
She’s the queen of clubs (woo)
Out in the valley
She’s the queen of clubs (woo) (out in the valley)
(She’s the queen of clubs) (whoa) (out in the valley)
(She’s the queen of clubs) (yeah, yeah!)
(She’s the queen of clubs) (whoa) (out in the valley)
(She’s the queen of clubs) (oh baby, yes she is!)
(She’s the queen of clubs) (woo) (out in the valley)
(She’s the queen of clubs) (yeah, yeah!)
(She’s…)

Brings back memories. Wow! I hadn’t thought about or heard anything by KC and the Sunshine Band in decades.

They were seriously good in my opinion! One of the reasons I immediately bonded with D. Byrne was his fondness for KC [clearly also audible in his own music]

Nope, I hadn’t heard this one before. The one I remember from this group is “I’m Your Boogie Man.”
