JEΤΗRO TULL : LOOK INTO THE SUN [STAND UP, 1969]

Μια μπαλάντα από το Stand Up, δεύτερο άλμπουμ των Jethro Tull. Έξοχο δείγμα της λυρικής πλευράς του Ian Anderson.
This ballad is a brilliant sample of Ian Anderson’s lyrical side. From
Stand Up, Jethro Tull’s second album.

Took a sad song of one sweet evening
I smiled and quickly turned away
It’s not easy singing sad songs
But still the easiest way I have to say
So when you look into the sun
See all the things we haven’t done
Oh was it better then to run
Than to spend the summer crying
Now summer cannot come anyway
I had waited for time to change her
The only change that came was over me
She pretended not to want love
I hope she was only fooling me
So when you look into the sun
Look for the pleasures nearly won
Or was it better then to run
Than to spend the summer singing
And summer could have come in a day
So if you hear my sad song singing
Remember who and what you nearly had
It’s not easy singing sad songs
When you can sing the song to make me glad
So when you look into the sun
And see the words you could have sung
It’s not too late, only begun
We can still make summer
Yes, summer always comes anyway
So when you look into the sun
And see the words you could have sung
It’s not too late, only begun
Look into the su

I remember this one! When I was in high school, all the cool people listened to Jethro Tull. All three of us. 😉

Fortunately they went on to be huge especially in the USA. It is “inconceivable” that albums like “Thick As A Brick” or “Passion Play”, consisting of a 45 minute song each, went gold in the USA in the early ’70s. There was a time where guys like Jethro Tull occupied the place Rihanna holds today.

I remember that time well! Not inconceivable at all, given the Zeitgeist.

Ian Anderson was a God-like figure for me, since I was 13. I’ll never forget the first phone interview I made with him several years later!

How wonderful! What a great memory!
I did get to see them live. A friend of mine who played flute dragged me. I’ve been a fan ever since!

Rihanna???? I saw her mentioned. Can’t stand her music. Saw her live at a Drake concert. (Long story how I wound up there) All the music was canned. They drolled around on the stage rapping to the canned music.
Not impressive, as last night. Norm had a jam session. The guys ripped to Gimme Shelter, Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Fly Like an Eagle!
