Το φαινόμενο των καλλιτεχνών που προωθούνται “σκανδαλωδώς” (όρος που χρησιμοποιούν οι μη γνωρίζοντες τους όρους του παιχνιδιού) από οργανισμούς και ιδρύματα, δεν είναι αποκλειστικότητα της Ελλάδας. Η μοναδικότητα (;) της χώρας μας έγκειται στο ότι, συνήθως, οι προωθούμενοι είναι οι λιγότερο άξιοι προωθήσεως. Καμία σχέση με περιπτώσεις όπως ο πιανίστας και συνθέτης Jason Moran, του οποίου ο επαγγελματικός βίος υπήρξε ανθόσπαρτος, υπό την έννοια ότι ποικίλες πόρτες (σχολές, δισκογραφικές, μουσεία, εικαστικά ιδρύματα) ήταν ανοιχτές γι’ αυτόν εξ αρχής. Αυτό αποτελεί ευτύχημα, όταν πρόκειται για ένα ταλαντούχο μουσικό όπως αυτός. Οι συνεργασίες του μιλούν από μόνες τους : Cassandra Wilson (ακούστε δείγμα εδώ), Greg Osby, Charles Lloyd, Archie Shepp, Sam Rivers etc. Το ίδιο και τα σόλο άλμπουμ του όπως αυτό του οποίου ακούμε ένα track : Το Artist In Residence αποτελεί συλλογή έργων που έχουν ανατεθεί στον JM από το Walker Art Center, το Dia Art Foundatin και το Jazz At Linclon Center. 🟡 🟡 The phenomenon of artists who are “scandalously” promoted (a term used by those who do not know the rules of the game) by organizations and foundations is not unique to Greece. Our country’s uniqueness (?) is that those who get promoted are usually the least deserving of promotion. That has nothing to do with cases such as the pianist and composer Jason Moran, whose professional life has been a charmed one, in the sense that many doors — schools, record labels, museums, visual-arts institutions — were open to him from the start. That is fortunate when the musician in question is as talented as he is. His collaborations speak for themselves: Cassandra Wilson (listen to a sample here), Greg Osby, Charles Lloyd, Archie Shepp, Sam Rivers, and others. So do his solo albums, including the one from which we are hearing a track: Artist in Residence is a collection of works commissioned from JM by the Walker Art Center, the Dia Art Foundation, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
