FANNY MENDELSSOHN [1805-1847] PIANO TRIO in D minor, op. 11. I Allegro molto vivace

Born at a time when the career of professional composer was unthinkable for a woman,
Felix Mendelssohn’s sister Fanny was involved in the composition of mostly piano pieces, on the margins of her role as “obedient daughter” initially, mother and wife afterwards. She was fortunate to see some of it published under the name of her famous brother Felix, who loved and supported her.
We hear the splendid first part of her
Piano Trio in D minor, performed by the London Bridge Trio.

    Fabulous!
So, Felix had to publish because women were not allowed?
Women’s roles through history make me angry.

Me too. There has been certainly progress since then. But I’m afraid some of the “contemporary” women’s roles aren’t much better.
