“In the Ghetto” is my favorite out of this group. It gets me every time.
Same here exactly …with “You Were Always On My Mind”.
I used to think Pet Shop Boys should be punished for their “cover” of the song!
Yes, that song, too. Luckily, I missed the Pet Shop Boys’ version.
That song, too. Luckily, I missed the Pet Shop Boys’ version.
Terrific podcast, thank you!
Elvis is special, his voice and feeling superb, even in spite of the schlocky movies he sang some of them in.
I love all of these songs.
The “Fine Young Cannibals” version of “Suspicious Minds” is a fave of mine, but nothing tops Elvis.
Thank you Resa! I used to play/sing FYC’s “She Drives Me Crazy” and “I’m Not The Man I Used To Be” live – we ‘d covered them with the band for party occasions. 😊
Welcome! “She Drives Me Crazy” is fab!
Indeed. I used to like “I’m Not The Man I Used To Be” even more!
Yes! I need to listen to that again, thanks!
I agree with Resa! I’ve been an Elvis fan since I was 13, watching his silly but fun movies. 🙂 Suspicious Minds is a favorite of these, along with Viva Las Vegas and Can’t Help Falling in Love. I also saw him in concert 2 years before he passed away. I was young, but I went with my older sisters and parents. He was fabulous, and there will only be one Elvis. Thanks for sharing! 🎶
I didn’t care much about Elvis in my teens, until I saw the movie ‘This Is Elvis’ in 1982 – he’d long passed away. I left the theater in tears. Later on, having discovered “Elvis the artist” and “Elvis the man”, in the context of improving myself as a vocalist, I “studied” guys like Iggy Pop, Bowie, Ferry, Gabriel, stuff like that. And …Elvis. Songs like “Heartbreak Hotel” and others from the classic era may seem primitive, but the technical demands of these performances are something I’ll never forget. Almost everything else is a walk in the park compared to Elvis. For my humble skills anyway.
Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts, Oannes. I enjoyed reading how your mind changed after seeing ‘This is Elvis.’ Heartbreak Hotel is a classic as well.
And [almost] impossible to sing, no matter how simple it may sound!
Thank you Lauren.
I can only imagine! I used to sing in my youth, but I’ve never tried singing this song. 🙂 I’m sure you’re great though! You’re welcome!
Αdequate at most – when it comes to Elvis!😓
