Ένα αριστούργημα απ’ την, κατάμεστη από τέτοια, πρώτη περίοδο των Devo. Περιλαμβάνεται στο τρίτο άλμπουμ τους, Freedom Of Choice. Σε ό,τι με αφορά, δεν έχω ξανακούσει rhythm section να παίζει με τέτοια μετρονομική ακρίβεια και τέτοιο drive – ούτε πριν …ούτε μετά από αυτό το τραγούδι. Ποιο drum machine, ποιο quantize, και ποια AI… 🟡 🟡 A masterpiece from Devo’s first period, which is packed full of them. It is contained in their third album, Freedom Of Choice. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve never heard a rhythm section playing with such metronomic precision and such drive – neither before… nor after this song. What drum machine, what quantize, and what AI….

Θα συμφωνήσω με την άποψη των Devo στο συγκεκριμένο τραγούδι: το να είσαι άνθρωπος είναι κατά κάποιο τρόπο dead end – ευλογία και κατάρα συγχρόνως. Από την άλλη αισθάνομαι υποχρεωμένος – με όλο τον ανυπόκριτο σεβασμό – να διαφωνήσω με την εκτίμησή σου σχετικά με το απόγειο του συνδυασμού μετρονομικής ακρίβειας και αποστομωτικού drive που κατά τη γνώμη μου ενσαρκώνει undisputedly ο John Bohnam!😇

Εννοείται ότι δεν υπάρχει θέμα συγκρίσεως από τεχνική άποψη του “καημένου” του Alan Myers με τον τερατώδη Bonham. Αλλά ο δεύτερος, οσοδήποτε ακριβής και να είναι (για ντράιβ δε μιλάμε, ξανα-εννοείται), δεν παύει να είναι κλασικός, βλ. σουϊνγκάτος ντράμερ. Ο Myers (γνωστός και ως “human metronome”) εδώ ειδικά, κάνει την υπέρβαση, συνδυάζοντας ασφυκτική, ρομποτική μετρονομία με ένα (δεν ξέρω πως αλλιώς να το ονομάσω) liberating feeling. Το κομμάτι κυριολεκτικά “πετάει”.
