Η συμβολή του του Jack DeJohnette, ως (co-) leader – συνθέτη – πειραματιστή και ως ντράμερ σε αμέτρητες ιστορικές ηχογραφήσεις (των Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Charles Lloyd και τόσων άλλων) καθιστά την πρόσφατη (26/10) απώλειά του σε ηλικία 83 ετών, τη σημαντικότερη μέχρι στιγμής εφέτος, για τον κόσμο της jazz. Δυο πρόσφατα posts στο blog (βλ. εδώ και εδώ), όπως και αρκετά άλλα, αφορούν σε σόλο κυκλοφορίες και συμμετοχές του. Διατρέχοντας την ιστορία του μεγάλου καλλιτέχνη, θα ακούσουμε τις επόμενες μέρες ακόμα περισσότερη μουσική με την προσωπική του σφραγίδα. Ξεκινώντας μ’ αυτό το άλμπουμ του 2017.
Συνδετικός κρίκος αυτής εδώ της σούπερ μπάντας, είναι ο τόπος διαμονής των μουσικών, η κοιλάδα του ποταμού Hudson. Οι John Medeski (keyboards), John Scofield (κιθάρα), Larry Grenadier (μπάσο), Jack DeJohnette (ντραμς) βρέθηκαν για πρώτη φορά μαζί στο Φεστιβάλ jazz του Woodstock το 2014, άσχετα αν έχουν συνυπάρξει παλαιότερα σε επιμέρους συνεργασίες. Το υλικό του άλμπουμ αντλείται εξ ημισείας από original και κλασικά (ροκ) κομμάτια, όπως αυτό.
