For the occasion, he composed his charming First Rhapsody, initially for clarinet and piano, and a year later in the version for clarinet and orchestra that we hear. The work is one of the standards in the instrument’s repertoire. The soloist here is Franklin Cohen, Pierre Boulez conducts the Cleveland Orchestra.
