Σαν σήμερα, 4 Δεκεμβρίου 1955 γεννήθηκε η σημαντική τραγουδίστρια, μουσικός και songwriter Cassandra Wilson. Από τα early ‘90s έγινε διάσημη με μια σειρά άλμπουμ που αναδεικνύουν την προσέγγισή της, προσωπική και ζωογόνα, σε ιδιώματα όπως τα blues, η pop, η jazz και η country.
Ακόμα μεγαλύτερο ενδιαφέρον όμως έχουν τα πρώτα άλμπουμ που κυκλοφόρησε ως μέλος της “κοινότητας” των M-Base [κύκλος μουσικών συγκεντρωμένων γύρω από τον συνθέτη – τενόρο σαξοφωνίστα Steve Coleman, μια από τις πιο δημιουργικές φυσιογνωμίες στην ιστορία της jazz και προσωπική μου “αδυναμία”].

On this date, December 4, 1955, the outstanding singer, musician and songwriter Cassandra Wilson was born. From the early ’90s she became famous with a series of albums highlighting her approach, personal and invigorating, to idioms such as blues, pop, jazz and country.
Even more interesting, however, are the first albums she released as a member of the M-Base “community” [a circle of musicians gathered around the composer – tenor saxophonist Steve Coleman, one of the most creative figures in the history of jazz and one of my all-time “heroes”).
