BRAHMS : SYMPHONY No 3

Good-Bye Again (Amais Vous Brahms? – Σας Αρέσει ο Μπραμς;) με τους Ingrid Bergman, Yves Montand, Anthony Perkins.
Το ακούμε στη σκηνή, κάτω (A. Perkins, Diahann Caroll).

Third Symphony’ s premiere was given in Vienna, 1883, with …period activists – followers of the “modernist” trend hissing full force (Brahms was the prominent of the “conservative” side, against composers like Liszt, Wagner).
This did not prevent the work from immediately conquering a large audience. A few days after the premiere, the composer himself would conduct the Leipzig
Gewandhaus Orchestra on his new symphony. The same orchestra by which we hear the third part, Pocco Allegretto, performed (dir. Riccardo Chailly).
78 years later, in 1961, this theme would become the hallmark of the film
Good-Bye Again (Amais Vous Brahms? – Do you like Brahms?) starring Ingrid Bergman, Yves Montand, Anthony Perkins.
We hear it on the scene below (A. Perkins, Diahann Caroll)

Thank you! I must say you are one of the happy few who enjoy it! I’m disappointed somehow by the reaction to this particular tribute. Same thing happened with the previous one (Prokofiev), but this one “hurts” 😢😀 because Brahms is my idol. That’s the reason I’m posting less stuff than originally planned.

I wouldn’t use the word “naysayers”. No-one is “obliged” to follow someone’s views about anything. I suppose composers like Brahms or Prokofiev are outside the spirit of the moment. 😇😊
Me and Marina are hysterical fans of Fawlty Towers, and anything Monty Python related. No surprise about John Cleeze liking Brahms!
          Thank You!!!
