BOCCHERINI : CONCERTO FOR VIOLONCELLO AND STRINGS No 2 In D Major

Italian composer
Luigi Boccherini [1743 – 1805] was instrumental in the upgrading of the cello to a solo rather than just an accompanying instrument. A cellist himself, he wrote music basically for strings, including guitar, the best known of which are the minuet from his quintet in E, Op. 11 No 5 and the Cello Concerto in B flat major.
We listen to
Mstislav Rostropovich and the strings of Leningrad Philharmonic on the third part, Allegro of another cello concerto – No 2 in D major.

Amazing! Cello is a recent love in my life. Wow! He wrote for guitar? (absolutely my fave instrument). This seems like a rebels work in his time. When did the guitar make its appearance?

In the 15th century. But Boccherini was among the first, if not the first to combine the guitar with a string quartet. Here’s an example from an older post
