The important alto saxophonist-composer Arthur Blythe [1940-2017], a musician who knew how to capitalize on the entire jazz tradition, from avant garde and bebop to the New Orleans era [in most of his recordings, including this one, he reinstates the tuba as his bass instrument – the double bass had replaced the tuba in jazz bands around the end of the ’20s].
