ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER : TELL ME ON A SUNDAY (1980)

Ένας ακόμα καλλιτέχνης τον οποίο απεχθάνεται ο “ανθηρόστομος” (και χονδροειδώς αντιεβραίος) Roger Waters, είναι ο Andrew Lloyd Webber. Θα υπέθετε κανείς ότι το πρόβλημά του αφορά στην (όντως) κλοπή και …ενσωμάτωση ενός θέματος από το Echoes (Pink Floyd – Meddle, 1971) στο τεράστιο χιτ απ’ το The Phantom Of The Opera.
Το Tell Me On A Sunday του Andrew Lloyd Webber (1979) είναι στην ουσία ένα one-woman show, ένας κύκλος τραγουδιών (στίχοι : Dan Block) που αναφέρονται στις περιπέτειες μιας Αγγλίδας στη Νέα Υόρκη.
📀 📀 📀 Another artist detested by the “florid-tongued” (and coarsely antisemitic) Roger Waters is Andrew Lloyd Webber. One might assume that his problem concerns the (genuine) theft and… incorporation of a theme from Echoes (Pink Floyd – Meddle, 1971) into the massive hit from The Phantom of the Opera. But our man has no intention of maintaining even a basic sense of proportion. For him, everything ALW has done in his career is “shallow,” “awful,” and “without any reason to exist.” Let me point out here that he is talking about the man who wrote Jesus Christ Superstar at 20. Also, the link I am attaching (here) leads to a live presentation of Waters’ “opera” Ça Ira, on the subject of the French Revolution. When I heard this “opera” on CD in 2005 (the year of its release), I literally could not believe my ears. Literally speaking as well, and always in terms of multimedia creation, (Daemones, Mala-)Karvelas is Puccini next to Roger Waters.
Tell Me On A Sunday by Andrew Lloyd Webber (1979) is essentially a
one-woman show, a song cycle (lyrics: Dan Block) referring to the adventures of an Englishwoman in New York. Among them are two of the best things the composer—not always gracious toward his (enormous) talent—has written. We hear them in their original performance by Marti Webb, a great singer.

00:00 It’s Not The End Of The World (If He’s Married) 02:14 Take That Look Off Your Face

IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD (IF HE’S MARRIED)
It’s not the end of the world if he’s married
Maybe he won’t always be
It’s not the end of the world, others do it
Nowadays it’s almost a craze
I’ll always have to make do with not buying him things
Or wearing mascara when he comes to see me
Or seeing him Christmas or calling his home
Why can’t he marry me?
It’s not the end of the world to come second
Making do is nothing new
It’s not the end of the world, it’s just starting
Half of one is better than none
It’s not the end of the world, no it’s not
If it’s the end of the world, wеll, so what?

TAKE THAT LOOK OFF YOUR FACE
You must be mistaken
It couldn’t have been
You couldn’t have seen him yesterday
He’s doing some deal up in Baltimore now
I hate it, when he’s away
You must be mistaken
I’m sure that you are
There’s more than one car with stickers on
And lots of young guys wear corduroy pants
And I’d know if he hadn’t gone
Take that look off your face (take that look off your face)
I can see through your smile (I can see through your smile)
You would love to be right
I bet you didn’t sleep good last night
Couldn’t wait to bring all of that bad news to my door
Well, I’ve got news for you: I knew before
If I’m not mistaken, it started last year
I’m not very clear how it began
I noticed a change, but I just closed my eyes
As only a woman can
No, I didn’t dig deep (no, I didn’t dig deep)
I did not want to know (I did not want to know)
Well, you don’t interfere
When you’re scared of the things you might hear
When he’s back, you think I will end it right there and then?
Well, my fair weather friend: you’re wrong again
Take that look off your face (take that look off your face)
I can see through your smile (I can see through your smile)
You would love to be right
I bet you didn’t sleep good last night
Couldn’t wait to bring all of that bad news to my door
Well, I’ve got news for you: I knew before
I can see through your smile (I can see through your smile)
You would love to be right
I bet you didn’t sleep good last night
Couldn’t wait to bring all of that bad news to my door
Well, I’ve got news for you: I knew before
