Συνεχίζουμε με δυο τραγούδια σχετικά με όνειρα από την εμβληματική περίοδο (early – mid- ‘70s) του Alice Cooper. Το ένα προέρχεται από το classic Love It To Death, το άλλο από το κομβικό Welcome To My Nightmare, πρώτο άλμπουμ που υπέγραφε ως σόλο καλλιτέχνης : μέχρι τότε το “Alice Cooper” χρησίμευε ως όνομα τόσο δικό του όσο και της μπάντας. 🔴 🔴 We move on with two songs about dreams from Alice Cooper’s iconic period (early to mid-‘70s). One comes from the classic Love It To Death, the other from the pivotal Welcome To My Nightmare, first album released under his name as a solo artist. Until then, “Alice Cooper” had served as the name for both himself and the band.

00:00 CAUGHT IN A DREAM (1971)
Well, I’m running through the world with a gun in my back
Trying to catch a ride in a Cadillac
Thought that I was living, but you can’t really tell
Been trying to get a whiff from that success smell
You know, I need a houseboat and I need a plane
I need a butler and a trip to Spain
I need everything the world owes me
I tell that to myself and I agree
I’m caught in a dream; so what
You don’t know what I’m going through
I’m right in between so I’ll
I’ll just play along with you
Well I’m running through the world with a gun in my back
Trying to catch a ride in that Cadillac
Thought I was living but you can’t ever tell
What I thought was Heaven turned out to be Hell
Whoa whoa, when you see me with a smile on my face
Whoa whoa then you’ll know I’m a mental case
Whoa whoa whoa, whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa
I’m caught in a dream; so what
I don’t know what I’m going through
I’m right in between so I’ll
I’ll just play along with you

03:04 WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE (1975)
Welcome to my nightmare
I think you’re gonna like it
I think you’re gonna feel you belong
A nocturnal vacation
Unnecessary sedation
You want to feel at home ’cause you belong
Welcome to my nightmare, whoa-whoa-oh
Welcome to my breakdown
I hope I didn’t scare you
That’s just the way we are when we come down
We sweat and laugh and scream here
‘Cause life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel right at home here
Welcome to my breakdown, whoa-whoa-oh
You’re welcome to my nightmare, yeah-yeah-ah
Welcome to my nightmare
I think you’re gonna like it
I think you’re gonna feel you belong
We sweat and laugh and scream here
‘Cause life is just a dream, yeah
You know inside you feel right at home here
Welcome to my nightmare, ooh-ooh-ooh
Welcome to my breakdown
Yeah

Alice Cooper was huge when I was in high school, mostly for the shock value. Listening to these songs again, I was struck by how clear Copper’s singing was, unlike the screamers that came after him.
Alice was my first idol as a boy. And for plain musical reasons. I just heard an album on cassette (before listening to The Beatles, the Stones …or anything else for that matter), and had no idea about the visual elements, apart from a photo or two. I would never have imagined what things were going on at his concerts. But I instantly fell in love with the songs and the voice. The album was Billion Dollar Babies – still one of my favorites of all time!
I think he’s one of the best singers of his generation. And a “timeless” one. It’s no coincidence that the Pistols auditioned Johnny Rotten with ‘I’m Eighteen’!
I agree with you about his singing voice. I guess at the time, I took it for granted.
Love this. Thank you!
Thank you for always lending an ear!
