Definitely ahead of its time, even by movie music standards.
They were classically trained musicians captured by the avant garde spirit of the era [Boulez, Stockhausen etc]. But …every serious “pop” musician of the ’60s and ’70s [The Beatles included] sounds ahead of his time, if we start thinking about the mudhole “pop” music ‘s stuck in today.
