The first is from Workin’ With The Miles Davis Quintet (1960), one of his all-time classic recordings with the first great quintet (MD, John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones). The second is from Tutu, released in 1986. It was composed by bassist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller, who wrote most of the material during this late period of the artist’s career — a period that happens to be one of my personal favorites.
