Αν εκείνη ήταν αποτέλεσμα όχι σχεδιασμού αλλά ατυχήματος (έκρηξη βόμβας στα χέρια του Ξηρού) η σύλληψη του φερόμενου ως δολοφόνου (Tyler Robinson, 22) δείχνει να “σχετίζεται” με την αμοιβή που είχε ανακοινωθεί για όποιον έδινε πληροφορίες γι’ αυτόν. Αυτή ανερχόταν αρχικά στις 100.000 δολάρια, για να αυξηθεί στις 125.000 μετά από προσφορά του Alex Bruesewitz, φίλου του Kirk και σύμβουλου του προέδρου.
Σήμερα το μεσημέρι, ο δισεκατομμυριούχος Bill Ackman πρόσθεσε σ’ αυτήν ένα εκατομμύριο δολ., ανεβάζοντάς την στο “ιλιγγιώδες” 1.150.000. Λίγο αργότερα – είχε προηγηθεί η δημοσίευση κάποιων φωτογραφιών – ο ύποπτος συνελήφθη. Τον παρέδωσε ο ίδιος ο πατέρας του, βετεράνος αστυνομικός.
