Ακούμε το Κονσερτίνο για Κοντραμπάσο του σημαντικότατου Έλληνα συνθέτη Θόδωρου Αντωνίου, γεννημένου αυτό το μήνα πριν από 90 χρόνια. Έργο λιγότερο “προωθημένου ύφους” από άλλα δικά του, χαρακτηριζόμενο από ασυνήθιστη δύναμη και πληθωρική μελωδικότητα.
Σολίστ είναι ο Edwin Barker, ενώ την Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra διευθύνει ο Gunther Schuller – ο άνθρωπος που στα late ‘50s συνέδεσε το όνομά του με τη γέννηση του Third Stream, είδους στο οποίο ο αρμονίες και ο αυτοσχεδιαστικός χαρακτήρας της jazz συναντούν τις δομές της κλασικής.

We hear Concertino for Double Bass by the very important Greek composer Theodore Antoniou, born this month 90 years ago. A work of a less “forward style” than others of his, characterized by unusual power and exuberant melodiousness.
Edwin Barker is the soloist, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra is conducted by Gunther Schuller – the man whose name was associated in the late ’50s with the birth of the Third Stream, a genre in which the harmonies and improvisatory character of jazz are combined with the structures of classical music.
