One of the most captivating covers of the song is this one by The Zombies – it was on the British band’s first album [1965]
It’s summertime and the living is easy
The fish are jumping and the cotton is high
Your daddy’s rich and your mama’s good looking
Won’t you hush, pretty baby, don’t you cry
One of these mornings you’re going to wake up singing
Then you’re going to spread your wings and take to the sky
But till that morning ain’t nothing, nothing going to harm you
With your mommy and daddy there standing by
It’s summertime and the living is easy
The fish are jumping and the cotton is high
Your daddy’s rich and your mama’s good looking
Would you hush, pretty baby, don’t you cry

That was excellent! Adore The Zombies!
Summertime is truly a great song. To this day my fave version is Janis Joplin’s cover on the Big Brother and Holding Company album.
Janis’ cover is one of my favorite too, needless to say…
In the Zombies’ version, melancholy is so deep and elegantly expressed – that was the trademark of this sublime group!
Thank you!
The Zombies are Their own, and fabulous!
