Αυτή είναι η πρώτη εκτέλεση του τραγουδιού του Ervin Drake που θα γινόταν αργότερα διάσημο στην πολυτελή βερσιόν του Frank Sinatra. Ήταν το ιδιαίτερα πετυχημένο στην εποχή του φολκ-ποπ συγκρότημα των Kingston Trio που κυκλοφόρησε το “It Was A Very Good year” το 1961.
This is the first performance of the Ervin Drake’s song that would later become a hit in the luxurious Frank Sinatra’s version. It was the acknowledged folk-pop band Kingston Trio which released “It Was A Very Good Year” in 1961.
… When I was seventeen, it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for small town girls and soft summer nights.
We’d hide from the light on the village green when I was seventeen.
When I was twenty-one, it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for city girls who lived up the stairs
With perfumed hair that came undone when I was twenty-one.
When I was thirty-five, it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls of independent means.
We’d ride in limousines.
Their chauffeurs would drive when I was thirty-five.
But now the days are short, I’m in the autumn of the year and now I think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs.
From the brim to the dregs, it poured sweet and clear.
It was a very good year.

This was an unexpectable post, and a very touching one!
I am the one who has to thank you for all the brilliant music you’ve given, and still giving to the world!
I remember this one from my growing-up years (although I think the one I remember was the Sinatra version).
The Sinatra version is magnificently dramatic, not only because of the voice. But this one has its own charm, in my opinion.
I never would have thought that the Kingston Trio recorded this song.
Hahaha! The Kingston Trio is a band I would never have thought I’d hear on this site!
I’m always learning here!
