RAY CHARLES : WITHOUT A SONG (1963)

Η νέα πρόταση του stcigar, όχι τυπικά χριστουγεννιάτικη, αφορά όλους όσοι αισθανόμαστε λίγο περισσότερο “εκτός”, αυτές τις μέρες. Πρόκειται για ένα κλασικό popular song, γραμμένο από τους Vincent Youmans (μουσική) και Billy Rose και Edward Eliscu (στίχοι) για το musical Great Day του 1929. 🍄 🍄 The new proposal from stcigar, though not a typical Christmas song, speaks to all of us who feel a little more “on the outside” during these days. It’s a classic popular song, written by Vincent Youmans (music) and Billy Rose and Edward Eliscu (lyrics) for the 1929 musical Great Day. Ray Charles has made it entirely his own, in a way he only knew. In the case of Without A Song’, that means transforming a nice Broadway melody into an unparalleled masterpiece.

Without a song the day would never end
Without a song the road would never bend
When things go wrong a man ain’t got a friend
Without a song

That field of corn would never see a plow
That field of corn would be deserted now
A man is born but he’s no good no how
Without a song

I got my trouble and woe but, sure as I know, the Jordan will roll
And I’ll get along as long as a song, strong in my soul

I’ll never know what makes the rain to fall
I’ll never know what makes that grass so tall
I only know there ain’t no love at all
Without a song

I’ve-a got my trouble and woe and, sure as I know, the Jordan will roll
And I’ll get along as long as a song, strong in my soul

I’ll-a never know what makes that rain to fall
I’ll never know what makes the grass so tall
I only know there ain’t no love at all
Without a song
