PODCAST : TALK TALK, THE BLUE NILE, CHRIS BOTTI

Ξεκινάμε με τα moody ηλεκτρονικά των Σκωτσέζων The Blue Nile, σε ένα ξεχασμένο (;) τραγούδι από το άλμπουμ – ντεμπούτο τους A Walk Across The Rooftops του 1984 : ‘Easter Parade’, σύνθεση των Paul Buchanan, Robert Bell (καμία σχέση με το ομότιτλο του Irving Berlin). Περνάμε στη φωτεινή πλευρά της ιστορίας της ποπ, με ένα από τα τραγούδια που έκαναν δίκαια πασίγνωστους τους Talk Talk την ίδια περίοδο : ‘Life’s What You Make It‘ απο το τρίτο τους άλμπουμ, The Colour Of Spring (1986). Και επιστρέφουμε στο πρώτο τραγούδι για μια ξεχωριστή instrumental διασκευή του από τον τρομπετίστα – συνθέτη Chris Botti. Το άλμπουμ : Night Sessions – 2001. 🟡 🟡 We start with the moody electronics of the Scottish band The Blue Nile, and a forgotten (?) track from their debut album A Walk Across the Rooftops (1984): ‘Easter Parade’, written by Paul Buchanan and Robert Bell (no relation to the Irving Berlin song of the same name). We then move to the brighter side of pop history with one of the songs that rightly made Talk Talk famous during the same era: ‘Life’s What You Make It’, from their third album, The Colour of Spring (1986). And we return to the first song for a special instrumental version by the trumpeter and composer Chris Botti, from his album Night Sessions (2001).

The line of traffic comes to a stand still
For the love King, out in the morning air
I find a place I started from
The wild is calling, this time I follow
Easter parade
In the bureau typewriter’s quiet
Confetti falls from every window
Throwing hats up in the air
A city perfect in every detail
Easter parade
I know you, birthday cards and silent music
Paperbacks and Sunday clothes
In hallways and railway stations
Radio across the morning air
A crowd of people everywhere
And then the people, all running forward
Easter parade

Baby, life’s what you make it
Can’t escape it
Baby, yesterday’s favorite
Don’t you hate it
Baby life’s what you make it
Don’t back date it
Baby, don’t try to shade it
Beauty is naked
Baby, life’s what you make it
Celebrate it
Anticipate it
Yesterday’s faded
Nothing can change it
Life’s what you make it
